Trey is Back in School and Doing Great!

Trey returned to school on Monday, September 24th. Only 2 1/2 weeks after surgery. He is enjoying being back in school with his friends, and is looking forward to his 13th birthday this Monday, October 15th.

Trey is gearing up for the 2008 race season and is looking forward to getting back on the track. He has really missed not only the racing, but the friends that he has made at the track. We hope to see all of you in the spring!

Trey Is Home!

We were pleasantly surprised that Trey was able to go home late Monday afternoon. We were shooting for Tuesday, but we were glad to go early. It is so amazing that open heart surgery was performed only 4 days ago, and Trey is home already. He only spent one night in the ICU and then 3 nights on the general pediatric cardiology floor. We had many doctors at the University of Michigan tell us that Trey's pediatrician saved his life by catching the heart murmur and ordering the EKG and Echo. Some of the doctors were baffled that Trey's condition would have even caused a heart murmur so that it could be detected. God was definitely watching over Trey for the last almost 13 years of his life. From everything that we have learned about the ALCAPA that Trey had, things could have been much much worse if this was not caught. Praise God for Trey's successful surgery!

We are so thankful that Trey is doing so well and will make a full recovery in what seems like a short amount of time considering the major surgery that he has had. He will not be able to return to school for a couple of weeks due to the germs in school and he also needs those few weeks for the sternum to start to heal so that he does not re-injur it in some way such as by bumping shoulders with someone in the hallways of the school.

Once again, thank you to everyone! Everyone has been so great! We truly appreciate all of the love and support. We could not have made it through this alone. Thank you to everyone that made the trip up to U of M to visit Trey. He may not have always been alert due to the pain medications, but he did know that you were there. Thank you to our family that came up and helped out with running for food and whatever else we needed. That helped a great deal so that we could concentrate on Trey and getting him better.

Trey would love to hear from you now that we are home. Please call or e-mail. We will talk to everyone soon.

Surgery Went Very Well, Our Prayers Were Answered!

Our prayers were answered and Trey came through surgery great! He is such a brave kid. I appologize for not getting some information out here earlier, but as you can imagine yesterday was a very long day. Trey went into surgery just before 9:00am and we were finally able to see him around 6:00pm for the first time. He woke up around 10:00pm and Trey was very glad to get the breathing tubes out at that time. The surgeon was very pleased with the results of the surgery. They were able to move the left coronary artery without having to make an extension for it. The concern was that it would not be long enough to do that but it thankfully was.

Trey is doing very well and will most likely move out of the ICU today sometime. Amazing huh? Once he is back in a room, he would love to hear from all of you. Thank you to everyone for the prayers and good wishes sent on Trey's behalf. We are very fortunate to have all of our great freinds and family. We will update this again once we know when they are releasing Trey to go home. Hopefully by the middle of next week.

Surgery Still on Schedule for Thursday, September 6th.

Trey had his first appointments today at the University of Michigan Children's Hospital. His chest x-ray, EKG, and echocardiogram all showed what the surgeon had told us last week. We spoke to two additional doctors today and they both agreed that what Trey has is an anomaly of the left coranary artery comming off of the pulminary artery(ALCAPA.) This was a birth defect and Trey's left coronary artery is attached to the wrong part of his heart which in turn does not bring enough oxygenated blood to his heart and would eventually cause a heart attack. Fortunatly Trey's heart is still very strong and healthy because the right coronary artery has overcompensated for the left side. The heart cath tomorrow will show the surgeon which of the two options to correct this ALCAPA will work best for Trey.

We will update again tomorrow. Please continue to keep Trey in your prayers.

Surgery is Scheduled for this Thursday, September 6th.

September is here, and that means that surgery is just around the corner. Trey would have been starting 7th grade on Tuesday, but instead we head up to Ann Arbor to the University of Michigan early Tuesday morning. Trey has a few appointments on Tuesday and the heart cath/angeogram will be on Wednesday. Surgery will follow on Thursday. The doctors have said we should plan on being in the hospital for about a week after surgery, but there is a chance theat we could leave sooner.

I know that we have said this before, but we really do appreciate all of the love and support from so many friends and family during this time. Thank you for all of the cards and e-mails, it means a lot that so many people care for Trey. We will update this site each day to communicate Trey's progress and recovery. Trey would love to hear from everyone. Please click on the contact tab at the top right hand corner of this site and send Trey a message. He will try to get back to you as soon as he can. Check back later this week for updates, and please keep Trey in your prayers.

Date For Surgery at The University of Michigan Mott Children’s Hospital

We found out this week that we will have to be patient for another 7 weeks. The University of Michigan called this week to set up Trey’s surgery. They are not able to schedule it until the first week of September. We were really hoping to get this taken care of this summer while Trey was out of school, but that is not possible. Trey’s pre-opp appointment is on Tuesday, Sept 4th. They have scheduled the heart cath for Wednesday, Sept 5th. There is a slim chance that during this test, if they confirm that it is a coronary artery fistula and it is small enough, they may be able to put a coil in the fistula which closes it off and prevent surgery. Otherwise the open heart surgery is scheduled for Thursday, Sept 6th.

Trey will miss at least the first week of school and depending on surgery possibly more. Because Trey is a straight “A” student he should have no problem catching back up. Thank you again to everyone who has sent cards and e-mails. We truly appreciate all of the love and support that has been shown. Please continue to keep Trey in your prayers and we will update this sight again the first week of September when we have more information to share with everyone.

Trey’s Great 2007 Season Has to End Early

After a great start to the 2007 season with 4 feature wins, 3 fast qualifying times and also a new track record at Jackson Speedway, Trey has to sit out for the rest of the season. At Trey’s regular yearly check-up a heart murmur was discovered. We thank God that his doctor is very cautious and after further tests is was found that Trey would need open heart surgery to correct a coronary artery fistula. We are waiting to hear from the surgeons at the University of Michigan Mott Children’s Hospital to see if anymore test are needed, and then surgery will be scheduled. Thank you to all of Trey’s fans who have followed his racing progress through this season. We will now be using Trey’s website to update all of our supportive friends and family on Trey’s surgery. Please feel free to send Trey messages by clicking on the contact tab in the upper right hand corner. He would love to hear from all of you, and we will be able to check these e-mails from the hospital as well. Thank you for all of the calls that we have received and especially the prayers that have been sent on Trey’s behalf. We genuinely appreciate the support. Please check back as we will update as soon as we have a date for surgery.

A Hard Wreck at Jackson!

On Saturday the 16th Trey wrecked out and finished in 9th place. Trey had a decent qualifying positin he qualifyed 5th so he started in 6th for the heat race and finished 5th. Trey then started in the 7th position for the feature Trey had passed a few cars when two cars got together and spun going into the turn and at that time Trey was getting ready to try and pass for the next position but because of that he was very close to the next car going into the turn, when they spun he had nowhere to go. Trey broke his front axle but didn't do any seriouse damage to the engine, or frame.

A 4th Place Finish at Hartford

On Friday the 1st Trey finished in 4th in the main event after finishing 2nd in his heat race. During the heat race there was a multi-car pileup just feet in front of him, even though he was hard on the brakes it just couldn’t stop in time so he did damage the front of his car but not too seriously, so he was able to keep racing. Since he finished 2nd in the heat race and the field was inverted he started the main event second to last. Trey then worked his way through the field to finish in an okay fourth place.

On Friday Trey took the main-event win at Hartford Speedway Park. He finished 3rd in his heat race and got to redraw for his starting spot in the feature. Trey drew a “4” and started fourth place. He then worked his way through the cars ahead of him and 3 laps into it, he was in the lead. He went on to lead the rest of the race and upset 10 other drivers to grab only his second win at the Hartford Speedway.

Fast Time and 600cc Open Class Feature Win at Jackson!

On Saturday Trey made the 2 hour haul to his favorite track, Jackson Speedway. After Trey's last finish at Jackson he was determined to win and that's just what he did. Trey took fast time yet again in qualifying, that put him in the rear of his heat race he worked his way through the field all the way up to 3rd place, and that put him on the pole for the feature. After starting on the pole he was dominant throughout the main event. Trey finished strong with a sraightaway between himself and second place.

A 6th and 8th Place Finish Over the Weekend

Over the weekend Trey finished in 8th place after doing very well in his heat race, but didn't have enough power to catch his rivals in the Hartford Speedway feature. Trey also visited Jackson Speedway on Saturday. He had a good qualifying time but the time gap between 1st and 8th was anly one tenth of a second! In the feature he was in second and was going for the pass for the lead on the last lap and was spun out by the third place driver but still finished 6th because of the green, white, checkered.

Trey then finished in a close second.
